Probably everyone at least once heard about a dog named Hachiko. But not everyone knows the details of the real story. The dog Hachiko is a model of loyalty and devotion. The story of Hachiko pierces to the core. In this article, we will tell the story of Hachiko, which will forever remain in your hearts.

Hachiko is an Akita Inu dog. In Japan, this breed symbolizes loyalty and devotion, these dogs are smart and reserved, like the Japanese themselves.

The story of Hachiko

Hachiko was born on the farm on November 10, 1923. As a baby, he was given to Professor Hidesaburo Ueno. The professor gave the puppy the nickname Hachiko for a reason. Hachi means eight, as it was the professor’s eighth dog, and the kō suffix means affection.

Hachiko grew up, he adored the professor and was very attached to him. Always and everywhere the dog faithfully followed his master. He accompanied him to work and met him from her every day. Hachiko followed the professor to Shibuya station, where he went to work at the University of Tokyo, and in the evening the dog returned to the station again to meet the owner. Everyone who knew the professor was already used to the fact that the dog always follows him.

The history of Hachiko began back in 1925, when on May 21 a professor at the university had a heart attack. Unfortunately, the doctors did not save him. It was on that fateful day that Hachiko did not wait for the professor. But the dog continued to come to the station every day and waited hopefully for the owner until the evening. After that, the dog returned to the professor’s house, where he stayed overnight on the porch.

Friends and relatives of the professor tried to accommodate Hachiko, but he stubbornly continued to return to the station again and again. Merchants, station workers and railroad workers admired the dog’s perseverance and fed him. The devotion and diligence of Hachiko could not go unnoticed. In 1932, all of Japan learned about Hachiko, after the publication of an article with the headline “The faithful dog is waiting for his master, who died seven years ago” in one of the largest newspapers in Tokyo.

The story of Hachiko won the hearts of the Japanese. Those who wanted to see the dog began to come to Shibuya Station. On April 21, 1934, a monument was erected to Hachiko. He personally attended its opening. During the Second World War, the monument went to the military needs. However, it was restored in August 1948. The image of Hachiko is an example of love and fidelity in Japan. Now couples in love often make appointments at the Hachiko monument.

The story of Hachiko, who came to the station every day for nine years, ended on the day of his death on March 8, 1935. Hachiko died of cancer, he was found near the station. Hachiko’s remains are kept in stuffed form at the National Science Museum in Tokyo. Some of Hachiko’s remains were cremated and buried at the Aoyama Cemetery in Tokyo. In 1987, the film “Hachiko’s Story” was filmed in Japan. In 2009, a remake was released called “Hachiko: The Most Faithful Friend” starring Richard Gere.
